Thorpe Park Oktoberfest was probably one of the best done and taken event I've ever seen at Thorpe. Everyone's gone crazy looking forward to it this year and I'll admit, I've joined in too! But was Oktoberfest really that good and why is there all the hype?
Oktoberfest in 2020 ran from mid September to early October, the period right before Fright Nights. I think this majorly impacted how well it went down as people are always wanting some sort of event before fright nights to help lead into it.
I went to thorpe park oktoberfest in September, and had a great day! I think my favourite part was the extra/new soundtracks added to some of the rides, and the new theming and name of Rumba Rapids (Oompah Rapids). It wasn't really all that different but the small sign and music changes were cool! The main new soundtracks were on Stealth and Detonator, which both sounded great! They were done similarly to when they replace soundtracks at fright nights, just more oktoberfest themed😂 There were also a few new all-round oktoberfest themed park soundtracks, which were a fun break from the normal park music, although I still love it.
The main entertaiment/food area was located outside Ghost Train, full of food, drink and merch stalls and a big stage with music and show performers on. It was a great area to relax and grab some exclusive merch or try out the new snacks! (Highly recommended the hot chocolate and brownies, very nice!😂)
Probably the funniest new addition for the event were the singing, dancing, entertaining set of roamers that could be found in various locations around park to play weird music based on whatever you asked them to?!
Another little added bonus of the event was the extra long opening hours of Thorpe, mostly being open until 8 throughout Oktoberfest. This was a welcome addition, as UK parks (specifically merlin parks) are known for their short opening hours and early closes😳
Overall, I think the reason people liked Oktoberfest so much is because it was really what the community wanted: good food, good merch, good music and good park hours. Personally, I really liked it but it could never beat fright nights. Also, I don't really know how much this impacted later during fright nights but for a while during fright nights, some of the oktoberfest theming was still out (same at towers) and it kinda ruined the atmosphere a little. Other than that, it was great!
How did you find Oktoberfest? When did you visit? Thanks for reaching, I'll see you next time!
