Oakwood Review - 2020

Updated: Feb 3, 2021

I visited Oakwood on my UK road trip last August, and I was actually very impressed. You could tell the park was a family owned, low budget place but it had a very nice atmosphere and a good selection of rides.

The park had a main children's area- Neverland. It was home to a roller coaster, a log flume, and some flat rides. The roller coaster was an oval coaster called Crocodile Coaster, that opened in 2013. The other main ride in the area was skull rock, a log flume that seemed like a British knock off of Pirates of the Carribean but with a drop that completely soaks you!

Along with these, there was a very tired looking, old chair-o-plane style flat ride, Tink's flying school. It was self-operated yet still felt dangerous, however, it was still enjoyable.

The park is home to 4 roller coasters other than the crocodile coaster, one of these was treetops. It was a family mine train style coaster with your average 16 row long train. It had A LOT of near miss elements with the trees and was quite rough but the interaction with the trees was very cool.

There are 2 thrill coasters at the park: Speed No Limits and Megafobia. I personally enjoyed Speed more of the 2. It is a gerstlauer eurofighter, like saw the ride, except it has a vertical loop and a heartline roll. I prefer Speed's layout to saw's but saw features much better theming and an indoor section which is very good. Megafobia is the UK's second newest wooden coaster, after Wicker Man. It is very different to wicker man as it has a lot of airtime whereas wicker man is very forceful. I liked megafobia because it has such an unpredictable layout and is very spontaneous with it's twists and turns, but i prefer wicker man for it's imaginative storyline.

Waterfall is a water slide ride located near Speed at the back of the park. It's an absolute drencher! I had 2 rides on it as i wasn't really worried bout getting wet as we were there in the middle of summer. I managed to avoid falling in but i can't say the same for my family!

The last of the main rides at the park are in the Halloween section of the park. It features a coaster called the creepy crawler and a dark ride called spooky 3D. The coaster was a relocation and the dark ride was clearly low-budget, but they were both scary in their own ways. Creepy crawler featured a pumpkin entrance with a house inside and a giant peach stone! The dark ride had nice set pieces and some jump scares.

Overall, i had a very enjoyable day at Oakwood, getting multiple re-rides on all the coasters as the park was dead even though we were there in the middle of August. I can't wait to see the new investments the park get in the future when they have the money. As a park, I would give it a rating of 3.5/5
