I was lucky enough to go to Chessington in opening weekend, and finally managed to get on Croc Drop! It was one of my favourite trips to Chessington in ages, park was open till 7 and there were really small queues on lots of rides! I'll be reviewing it by the ride, theming, effects/soundtrack and surrounding area/queue and the shop. Let's get into it!
Ride:
The ride system is a junior drop tower, the same model as Magma at Paultons. It's got a 1.2m height restriction, so it's a perfect match for the family market of the park. It was more intense than I expected, especially on longer cycles and just a great all round flat ride! I obviously miss Rameses and wish they hadn't removed it, but in terms of replacements it's perfect!
Theming:
The theming is an interesting one. It's really detailed and fits the area really well, but doesn't quite have a storyline. I personally would have loved either queue screens or a pre-show. (I imagine the idea of an indoor pre-show would have immediately been ruled out to accomodate for covid, but some sort of storytelling would have been cool.) Other than that, the theming it does have is really impressvie, especially the main crocodile!
Effects:
There are a few different ride effects, so I'll go through them separately.
Soundtrack - I love the rides soundtrack made by Nick Hutson! It's played around the area and in the queue, at a great volume. It also goes really well with the music of surrounding rides and areas, so sounds really nice!
Lighting - The ride has lights on the floor and around the door. They look beautiful! They change colours and shine in different areas to match the ride cycle.
Smoke - around the rim of the crocodile there are smoke machines that put out mist before and during the cycle. It looks great on ride, but also really pretty off ride!
Area/queue and Shop:
The ride queue is relatively interesting without too much cattle-pen. The fencing is also really detailed and nicer than some of the queues in other park areas. It looks really nice and matches the area PERFECTLY!
Thank You very much for reading, I hope you enjoyed!
